About us

This is a work in progress....up an running June 11, 2009 ,...more to come soon!

Gothardt.com is my first attempt at actually selling my own art. Never wanting to part with my original paintings, I have found a company that does wonderful reproductions on canvas, and I will be offering very limited editions in my own handmade frames. Some of these will show up on my eBay Norwinda site or can be purchased here through contacting myself.

This venture is partly inspired by motorcycling and that seemed to be a great way to expose my art. Being more a self-taught type of artist and having little interest in the pretentious gallery scene while making art affordable and open to the public just seems like the right thing to do. More importantly, this has been a lot of fun and gave me an excuse to build some custom bikes!

Growing up my favorite artists were Dali and DaVinci. Later on the early religious art of the 14th to 16th c. fascinated me. The disproportioned primitive style had both a surreal and visceral style that seems to truly come out of the artists soul, and we rarely know who did these, so it seems this type of art was not as ego driven like later styles.

Since these old masters have been priced beyond reach, I thought it would be possible to recreate that style, and try my hand at painting. I learned that the Renaissance style typically used a monochromatic under painting, then use color glazes. The effect is unique and creates depth with a glow that almost seems alive! The airbrushing process is similar with the overlay of transparent colors, and seems like a great opportunity to meld classic styles with modern technology to create some beautiful and practical art! I hope you like what you see!

It wasn't easy finding an airbrush artist that was able and willing to translate my vision onto metal. These folks were a pleasure to deal with!
